These words are the essence of lido. Whether you swim hard and fast, slow and steady or not at all. Whether you are a diver, a dunker, a bather or a paddler. Whether you train hard and go home, or dip your toes in and stretch out on a towel with a good book and a picnic.

However you use them, the essence of lido will be yours to savour.

We are here to help you find them, use them, enjoy them and support them.

Our book, The Lido Guide, grew out of a shared passion for outdoor pools that can only be characterised as obsessional. Researching and writing it has been a labour of love that has enriched our lives immeasurably. We hope it, and the pools it guides you towards, will inspire you.

The lidos of the UK are all, to varying degrees, vulnerable. Many operate on a financial knife-edge and the best way you can help them is by swimming in them. Pools can, and do, help each other and we work hard to connect them with each other, as well as connecting them with swimmers. We organise events such as the national lido conference, pool operator away-days and regularly visit pools. We also speak at public meetings organised by campaign groups, and reach out to the press to help keep lidos in the public eye outside those heatwave summer days when every newspaper wants to talk about them.

Our blog posts are here to help keep you informed, and you can sign up to our newsletter to be notified of a new post and kept up to date with lido happenings all over the country.

Welcome to the world of the lido.
